Slumberous souls have been stirred,
A century of disaster has incurred,
Men with their chests, bulging with pride,
Have left the beasts plundered and deprived.
With their hands smeared in blood, and mouths full of greed,
They’ve filled their bodies with imbecile needs.
They raided the forests with guns and saws,
Hunted the royals for their skin and their jaws,
No life form was spared in haste and heed,
They swiped the earth of her green and her seed.
They went in the night and went during the day,
Brought down giant trees and ignited the hay.
It was a soulless slaughter, a bloodless riot, a barbarous feast,

A one sided war against harmless beasts.

They surged ahead, forest to forest,
Taking what they wanted and causing unrest.
What was left was a silence with no life to cry,
Not even an antelope, not even a fly…
With his cave destroyed, and his hunt all killed,
With roaring machines and birds all stilled,
With unremitting greed roaring in rage,
With a fury and a fear of being put in a cage,
He hid them all, his cubs and their mother,
His tail twitching, claws clenched, ready for slaughter;
Out he came, the royal beast;
Into the domain of the pundit and the priest.
They grinned and mocked and loaded their guns,
A finger clicked and down went the sun.
Darkness bemoaned, they praised the Nox,
The cubs were packed in a cardboard box.
Day after day, they hunted them down,
Till life was void and so was sound.
The beasts gave in to the ghastly intruder,
Silently and gallantly they reduced in number.

Prick thy conscience, cleanse thy veins,
Open your eyes and accept the shame.
Launder your faces drooling with greed,
De-hypnotize, efface, and rewrite thy inhuman creed.
Save the tiger, the forests and its food,
Shed down ignorance, remember the rood.
Man and the beast are strung by a thread,
Extinction of one is the other one’s dread.
Save the tiger, because there are just 1411 left,
Save them now or soon we’ll be the next.
