Many of my Indian friends are getting beaten in Australia, some are getting killed.
This has been the plight of Indian students in Australia. Some of the Indian private institutes can’t get free of this whole mess. You can get to see many MBA institutes in Bangalore luring student in the name of an Australian degree as well as a trip to Australia as internship and then things like racism comes into play.
These are some of the examples when two or more countries do not aim to unify their educational structure. It may seem bit unusual to hear a thing like unification of education systems of two or more countries, but this the demand of the hour. In pursuit of being liberal, all our childhood we were taught that whole world is like our family. So in such a pursuit why can’t countries amalgamate their Education systems?
Recently proposed Foreign University Bill by Union Government of India may become the first step of such a fusion. Remember Indi-Greek civilization was based upon such a fusion that people like Meghasthaneez came to India and became an integral part of our history.
In an era of advance techniques and Internet, Education will certainly become the backbone of a merger. Thus cultures will get to know each other, though many of the cynical will go on to bash every aspect of either America or Australia. But that is not the point. The point is about the change that every true liberal aspires to see.
So we need to come forward to bring a change. First National commission for Higher Education under Prof. Yashpal proposed the entry of foreign universities.
The commission said that foreign universities need to look into the cultural and Geographical diversity before setting their branches so that they can offer their intellectual property accordingly. Meanwhile India needs more than 800 universities and 35000 colleges in next ten years, but stills everything that has been said on the bill is based upon presumptions. Facts are missing from public discourse.
Marxist says that knowledge production (as stated by foreign institutes) is only a way to deceive Indians from profit and loss game that is based upon greed of these Universities. But looking practically the meaning of profit and loss for institution like Harvard, Cambridge, MIT, must be different. Perhaps the difference of their meaning has made them benchmark institution all over the world. Infect what Government need to do is to regulate the act (if bill becomes an act) in a way that not every Tom, dick and harry gets the opportunity to infiltrate in our education system.
There are questions that without raising the standard of Primary and Secondary Education how can Government think of upgrading the higher education.
Answer to such queries is that we have seen the loopholes of our Education system. One who comes out of such a system rather than abridging the gap tries to utilize the loopholes. So in a way the purpose of imparting good quality education gets defeated.
There is every possible chance that a step like Foreign University Bill may bring a new meaning to our education system. If the new bill can bring a good sense of competitiveness amongst Indian Education institute and foreign Universities, we’ll certainly get a different dimension to every single aspect of our Education system.
An affluent Indian, who sends his kid to a country like America or Canada for good quality Education, may want his kid to stay in India. But such has been the circumstances that he cannot. But if he could then his kid would have got good quality education with his Indian mates.
