Letter to the parents – touching

POWERFUL LETTER OF A YOUNG SON TO HIS PARENTS

 This letter[abridged] is in fact from an actual DYC member 
to his parents

This is a very important letter that I just had to write. I am very clear on what I am supposed to write here and so I will but one thing that is much bigger than writing this letter is clicking on the send button. Knowing the relation we share neither of us know deeper into the other person. This is the 1st mail towards that end.

To start with I would like to talk about my career. I understand that by being parents you have always thought the best for me and will always do. On the same lines I too want the best out of me. To achieve that it is very important to understand what I am best at. One of the biggest hurdle in this-unlike a lot of people-is I am good at a lot of things.

The potential I have in me is enormous. If I do not channelize it in the right directions it might get wasted. And I do not want that.

And there are a lot of things I thought I am not good at. To make the situation worse I am a fast learner and believe in “All that you can think you can achieve, you can achieve.”

So I have a lot of options and more the options more the confusion.

I have already started working on where I want to take my career. Your support and understanding will only hasten up the process because I value your support.

To me my career was secondary. Primary was to decide on what I want to be? How would my personality be? Basically searching my own self.

To start with I have started working out ”MY Purpose of Life”. Everyone of us has a purpose in life. The very reason of their existence. Everyone is here to play a role. The earlier and clearer you understand your role the better you can play. More focused you can get.

It is like the plan of building a house. First one would like to look at the bigger picture ie how do you want the house to look like. Which direction would its face be? Then the blue print is made and you decide how you are going to achieve it. And then the actual construction begins and then the smaller details like lamp post, gate, windows etc is decided.

I am looking at life just the same way. I am trying to figure out where I have to go and then make a plan how to go there. There is a saying” If you do not know where you are going, then wherever you go it doesn’t matter”. My career, my relations, my marriage that will happen at some point of time are all like the doors and the windows which I choose to decide later. They will take a backseat at this point of time.

From the other side of the fence-the side from where you are looking at me I might look very dormant. But I am continuously spreading my roots under the ground strengthening myself. In my perspective this is much more important at this point of time than my career. I might be wrong in my choices but if I am wrong I am ready to fight it out all over again.

A lot of people around me might look very driven and have already started reaping the benefits of a flourishing career. But life doesn’t stop at a career. There are a lot of responsibilities that one has to be ready for. And there is a life after career. If I do not decide some of the things now I might be too late to deal with some situations as and when they happen.

The point here is my time will come. And it will come very soon. It is then when I would say I am ready. I am ready to stand strong, I am ready to stand long and if nobody stays by me I ll also be ready to stand ALONE.

There is a movie “Pursuit of Happiness” in which the father tells his son these very touching lines” You got a dream, you got to protect it. People can’t do something themselves and they wanna tell you, you can’t do it. You want to do something. Go get it. Period.”

Just like this I too have dreams and I am also protecting them and working everyday towards it.

I know you must have also dreamt a lot for me-which I should achieve. All I can say is I might not achieve all of them but I ll surely achieve all of my dreams and make you proud. This is one thing you can be very sure of.

I am really really happy to have such parents as you who have supported me in all ways and means possible. The best that you could think of, you have thought for —- and me. I love you both for being so loving parents unto each other and to us. Thanks for the education and the values given to me. They will never let me stray my path and no matter what I be in the future I can easily say that to top it all “I ll be a GOOD PERSON”.

Apart from this there are a lot of things that I would like to communicate is my life is a life NOT WASTED. Till then keep the faith.
