Studying this subject is intensely interesting...compelling...and you are bound to think twice about your own existence once you become aware of the theories of communication!I hope I'll be able to find the time & clarity to write more on the subject. As far as the sources of media power are concerned...it'd be great to know what you think are the sources of media power..

Hi Gideon,

Thanks for your comment.

You have used the 3 words that actually give rise to all the theorizing done with regard to media and communication – “Power of Media”

You know a very large number of people, especially in the U.S. wanted, rather still want the answer to the question – “What is the power of media?”

I have the privilege of studying about almost all the major research that has been done to find the answer to that question. If we do not exercise judgment over the media, then that gives them the power to do, what they want, not meaning necessarily that everything they will do then will be bad/not like able/unhealthy / corrupting / confusing/ etc, but what about the stuff that is like that ?The question here is also, what is the purpose of the media ?
I think , the media, is here to serve !
Serve is the word.
They are here to serve mankind, by bringing to light / highlighting stuff that we as a society need to consider/check/look into/be aware of/ etc, so that we can all progress/improve/ as a human race.
The media also brings in entertainment, information, etc, but what good would it be if the purposes of their heart were not aligned with the attitude to serve and make things better.I think being in the media for somebody , for the right reasons, brings in huge amount of responsibility and to me I consider that job to be very noble. That's what it ought to be as against money, power, status and whole bunch of other crap.If the heart is not right, then we must do something to check the situation.
After all, we can't sit quiet if the media is so misaligned from it purpose of existence.

Hi, Girija, that was a well written article.

I am sure that there has to be some method of exercising control/influence over the media, because, if there is none, then that would mean, the media can do whatever they want.

If we do not exercise judgment over the media, then who will ?<br
